Maryland Actions

The Maryland Attorney General's Office is working hard to protect Maryland residents from the harmful actions of the Trump administration. Among other actions, Maryland – as lead plaintiff – is spearheading a coalition of 20 attorneys general in challenging unlawful mass layoffs of thousands of federal probationary employees, terminations that are draining state resources and threatening our economy. Maryland has also joined other multistate lawsuits to challenge the administration's harmful policies, including the dismantling of the Department of Education, freezes on essential federal funds and cuts to medical research, the unlawful acts of Elon Musk's so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and President Trump's attempt to overturn the Fourteenth Amendment and end birthright citizenship.

The Maryland Attorney General's Office is working hard to protect Maryland residents from the harmful actions of the Trump administration. Maryland has joined multistate lawsuits, friend of the court (“amicus”) briefs, comment letters, and taken other actions to challenge the administration's harmful policies. Below is a list of lawsuits our office led, co-led, or joined and a list of amicus briefs we led or co-led.

In addition to the list below, which is maintained by our office, the Progressive State Leaders Committee (PSLC), an organization that advocates for progressive policies that promote justice, fairness, and equity, has launched a public website tracking actions taken by state leaders, including our office, to protect Marylanders and the State’s interests from harmful federal policies. Users can filter actions by state, category, and what position our office took in each action (for example, plaintiff or amici state). Please see link to the tracker below. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General does not own, maintain, or is responsible for its content.

If the Trump administration continues to take actions that hurt our State and its residents, our Office will stand up for Marylanders and challenge those actions in court.
